Therapy for Disordered Eating
Have you noticed a change in your eating habits?
Do you feel like you’re constantly battling with food?
Are you struggling with body image issues?
It's estimated that 30 million Americans have struggled with an eating disorder at some point over their lifetime. That breaks down to 20 million women and 10 million men (Claire Mysko, CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association, U.S. News). Societal expectations of beauty, concerns regarding self-esteem, and issues with weight may all be factors contributing to eating disorders. The number of individuals affected by eating disorders in their lifetime is not an insignificant number, and you are not alone. You have come to the right place, though, because Niyyah Counseling offers experienced professionals who are equipped to work with you.
Treatment for eating disorders has several different components; in our practice, we ask for you to also see a medical professional, as well as a dietician/nutritionist specializing in eating disorders, simultaneously. In session, you may be asked to journal your eating patterns, describe how you feel about food, observe yourself in the mirror and mention what you see, or work on issues related to self-esteem. By tackling each of these issues, we will be working together to help you get through this obstacle on your journey of life. Our therapists have over 12 years of experience working with individuals like yourself.
This eating disorder is most likely something that you’ve struggled with for quite some time now. At Niyyah Counseling, we recognize that change doesn’t occur overnight, nor should anyone expect it to. With the help of one of our clinicians, along with the support and guidance of a medical professional and dietitian/nutritionist, you will start to see changes in the battle that you are currently fighting.
